It was another day of lots of walking! We didn't know what we were in for at all but more on that later ...
September 26th Highlights
The day started out like every other day in Napoli going to Gran Caffe Gambrinus for breakfast. We had tried to visit the Castel dell'Ovo near the water the day prior, as we had four years ago, but it is closed right now likely for repairs? No idea why but we were told it would be "for quite some time". So we decided to go visit another castle we hadn't been to ... Castel Sant'Elmo. My GPS said it was a about a 25 minute walk. Not too bad, right? And a pizzeria Erik wanted to go to was about 17 minute walk from the castle.
My first hint should have been the fact that the castle is obviously higher up in Naples. But I didn't anticipate the fact that it was literally just steps after steps after steps after steps after steps the whole entire way up to it LOL. Had we realized what the walking road to get there was like we many have given up before we even started. It was a bit hot which did not help either. But we made it and we all (maybe?) decided it was worth it.
In all seriousness, the views were absolutely amazing and was a 360 degree panoramic view of Napoli. Again, my mind is always blown at the history of what we are viewing each time with the Castel's first building dating back to the 1200s and today's building from 1537.
Lunch was at Vincenzo Capuano followed by gelato because after all those stairs, lunch gelato was necessary!
We embarked on our then 45 minute walk "home" and rested for the next few hours until dinner time where we went to the original Sorbillo in Via deli Tribunali 32. We had to wait about 15 minutes and I tried my first Aperol spritz while waiting. I kept seeing people drinking them everywhere but had yet to actually have one and now I'm going to want them all the time!
